About Distance Ed.

Note to all faculty: all distance education instructors are required to receive distance learning training prior to teaching an online course for the first time.

The University’s vision states:

Texas Wesleyan aspires to be a values- and student-centered university where motivated students prepare for graduate school and leadership in professional careers. This vision is premised upon the understanding that professional employers seek individuals who have attained the essential skills of critical thinking, analytical reasoning and creative problem solving. Texas Wesleyan believes that the best way for undergraduate students to learn these skills is in a liberal arts setting through intentionally small classes led by gifted faculty who are committed to student success.

As part of the initiative to promote a student-centered university, the CETL provides resources and professional growth opportunities to faculty on enhancing instructional practice, integrating technology, and promoting essential student skills. Another initiative from the university is the creation of online or hybrid courses that enrich the students’ learning experiences and expand the learning from the traditional walls to anywhere and at anytime.

The position of the CETL in the distance education initiative is to effectively train faculty in instructional methodologies, to ensure that the quality of instruction is on par with more traditional methods of instruction, and that every online course meets or exceeds standards for effective online courses. While a formal Distance Ed. policy and procedures are in the process of being created (and later will be shared here), the CETL is committed to proving Blackboard training and certification for instructors interested in teaching an online or an hybrid course.
