Engaging Students and Collaborating with Mobile Devices

scanlifeScanLife is a free app that allows users to read QR and bar codes. To create a QR code go to http://qrcode.kaywa.com/, paste your URL on the bar, click “generate,” then right click to save the image and add to any document you want it on (and any presentation).  To download this app for iOS click HERE. remindRemind (formerly known as Remind 101) is a free app for iPhone and iPad that allows instructors to send text messages to students. You don’t need the mobile app to use the Remind services, you can just go to Remind.com. Students subscribe to your class by texting an unique code and later you have the ability to contact them via text message without sharing your personal number nor getting their personal number. The app also allows you to schedule future text messages to be released, which could be a great tool to notify students of important tests or projects. To download this app for iOS click HERE. socrative

Socrative is a free student response system app for teachers and students. It allows teachers to create educational exercises, games, and quizzes to engage with students and providing real-time response updates. Socrative runs on smartphones, tablets, as well as laptops and students are not required to create accounts, they just join a classroom with a code. This application also provides online reports for teachers in Google Sheets or Excel formats. For a database of activities that you can use with Socrative click HERE. showme

Show Me app allows you to create lessons in an interactive whiteboard through your iPad. Also, it allows you to share your creations with the Show Me community as well as with social networks, email, or embed them into other websites. To download this app for iOS click HERE. google_driveGoogle Drive is a an app from Google that allows users to store, access, create, and collaborate on files stored in the cloud. Google Drive users have up to 15GB of free storage space. To login just use your Google account information (gmail email address and password) and from there you can create, edit, or access files on the go. You can also access these files and collaborate from a desktop browser by going to drive.google.com. Click HERE for iOS download | click HERE for android download.

aurasmaAurasma is a free and simple augmented reality app that allows you to virtually add multimedia files to real world images and later access them via the app/camera on your mobile device. Creating an aura is easy and simple and when students access them you will blow them away. Click HERE for iOS download | click HERE for android download.
