Teaching Consultations


Teaching consultations are the CETL’s most utilized service. Teaching consultations are designed to meet an individual faculty member’s needs by helping them to tackle a teaching challenge or to try new teaching approaches to foster student learning.

Teaching consultations cover a variety of teaching and learning topics, including:

Writing student learning outcomes
Designing online courses
Designing courses to enhance student learning
Creating instructional media (podcasts, videos)
Enhancing study guides
Teaching strategies for online courses
Using Google Docs
Creating course blogs
Designing and creating effective rubrics
Teaching strategies to improve student learning
Improving teaching effectiveness
Incorporating formative assessment into courses

Syllabus Review

The course syllabus is your first opportunity to scaffold your students’ learning and set the tone for the course. A well-written syllabus can help students to become better learners in your course and to experience a rich learning environment.

Course Design (Face-to-face and online)

Have you ever wanted to redesign a course that you have taught? Have you been asked to teach a new course? Consider consulting with our Instructional Designers to assist you in designing your course. We can help you to:

  • Develop student learning outcomes
  • Develop a syllabus that clarifies expectations of the student, the instructor, and the class environment
  • Design assignments that help students achieve stated learning outcomes for the class while connecting concepts and skills across the curriculum
  • Align course outcomes with program level outcomes to support program level assessment

IDEA review

Texas Wesleyan University evaluates courses each semester using the IDEA survey. A CETL staff member can review your IDEA survey data with you and help you to decipher the results. We can also help you to plan changes to instructional strategies based on the survey results.
