THIS WEEK AT THE CETL – 10.15.2013

Hello Wesleyan Faculty!

We’ve got another big event planned! On November 5th, Shelley Chapman from the IDEA Center will be on campus all day to help faculty and administrators learn more about the IDEA Student Ratings of Instruction. This is a great chance to learn more about the form and its use. There are two opportunities for faculty to learn from Shelley. During free period, from 12:15 to 1:30 on November 5, there will be an “IDEA 101” workshop open to all faculty. Shelley will cover all aspects of the student rating form here. If you have additional questions, you can set up a time to speak individually (or with a small group) with Shelley anytime from 3:00 – 4:30. RSVP for the IDEA 101 workshop here. Email Jasmine Tuya to set up an individual appointment for that afternoon.
There’s still time to register for our other big event! “Instructional Strategies for Linguistically Diverse Students” happens on October 25 from 12:00 – 4:00 pm and again on October 26 from 8:30 am – 12:30 pm. We’ll have food at both sessions!
Don’t forget our regular workshops:

  • Discussion Based Online Teaching  helps faculty bring conversation into their online, hybrid, or web-assisted courses using BB Disucssion Boards and other tools. 10/15 at 12:30 pm.
  • Learn how to use your iPad to create audio, video, and other learning content at iPad as a Self-Contained Content Creation Tool. 10/17 at 12:30.
  • Go Beyond Powerpoint by learning how to incorporate your existing Powerpoint slides into a Prezi. 10/18 at 1:00 pm.

Addy attended the Teaching Professor Technology Conference a couple of weeks ago and brought back lots of great handouts and information. You can access those handouts online: Teaching Professor Technology Conference Handouts.

Did you know that CETL has a library of books and other materials? All are available to check out. This week, we’re featuring On Saudi Arabia (donated to our library by Joe Brown)! It’s a readable overview of the history and culture of Saudi Arabia and an invaluable way to connect with our Saudi students.

Have a great week!
